Debt Restructuring Consultant

Position Summary:
Bromwich + Smith is seeking candidates that are experienced in the Insolvency Industry to fill the strategic role of Debt Restructuring Consultant.  This position is responsible for meeting with our clients, reviewing the information prepared in their file, confirming the accuracy  and explaining the process of the Consumer Proposal or Bankruptcy they are about to enter into.  It is also their duty to ensure the client understands what is required of them in order to achieve a successful discharge.

Consultants are also required to provide insolvency counseling as mandated by the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (BIA). 

The successful candidate will be a knowledgeable resource to their team mates, those coming into their role and/or are in the Trustee Program, providing information on the insolvency process and legislative requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
• Meet with clients and develop a comfortable conversation and trust
• Verify ‘Statement of Affairs’ containing gathered client information
• Demonstrate the process they are entering, how it works and what to expect next
• Provide a package of documents to the client as per Bromwich + Smith Best Practices
• Review the payment schedule previously discussed and set a payment date
• Arrange time for first and second counseling meeting to review process with client Compliance
• Ensure adherence to all insolvency solutions policies, procedures and best practices
• Ensure alignment to administration processes, documentation and decision-making
• Ensure all legal checkpoints (due diligence) are adhered to in compliance with the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (BIA)
• Ensure compliance to ethical and professional requirements as per Office of the Superintendent Bankruptcy Canada (OSB) and the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals (CAIRP)
Knowledge & Skills:
• High school or post-graduate diploma
• Be recognized as a qualified BIA insolvency counselor
• 3-5 years of insolvency experience
• 2-3 years of experience as an Insolvency Solutions Specialist (internal)
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products
• Strong presentation and communication skills
• Results driven; previous experience with delivering excellent customer experience while achieving or exceeding targets expected; solution-oriented
• Working knowledge sufficient to identify the function of personal financial products such as RRSPs, pensions, RESPs, car loans, and mortgages
• Working knowledge and experience with insolvency software (preferred)
• Current enrollment in a CQP Program may be a strong consideration (preferred)
